Case Study- Damp, Structural Works, Restoration and Re-Pointing

I was contacted by a client who wanted to repoint their house, the pointing was severely degraded and had been badly painted in the past. The client was experiencing severe damp issues in this side of the house which they suspected was linked to the fact there were large holes around the entire structure where the mortar had failed (they were right). Large areas of the property had been badly painted in an impervious masonry paint, which looked awful but was also likely contributing to the damp issues (more below).

It was my job to fix their house and make it look presentable again!

Click the button below to download a 30 page case study of a recent job that encapsulates almost everything wrong with both the damp-proofing industry and working on older buildings without the requisite knowledge to do so.

Further down the page are two videos that are referred to in parts of the PDF, and I’ll upload images of the finished plinth once that’s done.

A video showing some structural failure as detailed in the case study.
